General Manager Position

The Ivy Club seeks a General Manager with strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills to lead the operation and management of Princeton’s oldest eating club. We provide daily meals, and common study/gathering and social spaces and events for 145 undergraduate members. The Club has 3500 graduate members and owns an historic club house on Prospect Avenue in Princeton, NJ.

Job Responsibilities

Effective Club Leadership – Ability to work successfully with a vibrant and diverse group of undergraduate members on a daily basis during the academic year. An effective club manager has the opportunity to be a mentor to students, and therefore high integrity, good listening skills and a clear manner of communicating are all core competencies and expectations of the job. The manager organizes events and communications for graduate members of the Club. In addition, the manager is the Club’s representative interacting with the University, other eating clubs and people and organizations in the Princeton community.

Dining Services and House Operations – Responsible for the Club’s dining services, housekeeping and maintenance. Hire, supervise and direct kitchen and custodial staff. Manage vendor relationships and contract service providers. Manage daily operations to provide high quality services while meeting budget targets. Knowledge of QuickBooks and ability to work with third-party accountant.

Communications and Member Engagement – Strong oral and written communication skills needed to effectively communicate Club’s activities. Knowledge of electronic communication tools (email, contact database management and website interface) and strong organization skills for event management will build overall member engagement. Ability to organize and manage a fundraising program working with graduate members to reach capital expenditure and scholarship goals.

Qualifications

  • At least 10 years of experience in hospitality, education or club management.
  • Strong skills and enthusiasm for working with undergraduates at Princeton University.
  • High character, flexible outlook and strong communication skills.
